In case you have this blog linked in your favorites, you may be missing the realignment I did on my site a couple of weeks ago. So, michaelmufasa.com now opens to my gallery page, not the old splash page that gave you a choice of “The Words” or “The Images”.

Take a look at my gallery for the latest pieces I am working on as well as upcoming events.

Also, I am on Twitter. I prefer to just keep connected to favorite artists and organizations so I don’t often tweet. But if I have something I think is worthwhile I will chirp it out.

thanks.

U2 in PHX, Me & ONE

As a volunteer for ONE.org, I was at the U2 concert at the University of Phoenix stadium. Awesome show.

The underlying message came from Archbishop Desmond Tutu

 The stage was gargantuan…

The video screen redefined what a video screen is. 54 tons, expands to 14,000 sq feet. (oh, and I had good seats 🙂 “The inner circle” I believe they called it) Not too mention a brief stint on the outer ring of the stage.

Here’s a video of it in action…

Okay I had good seats 🙂 but only my iPhone camera 🙁

But we were there to sign people up…and kiss 🙂 grueling work, but someone had to do it.

But the goosebump moment for many of us clearly came when Bono dedicated the song “Walk On” to Aung San Su Kyi. The democratically elected leader of Burma has been held under house arrest by the military for almost 20 years. The show of support for her from the 60,000 in attendance was genuine, profound and moving.

…And that’s us that Walked On the stage at the end of the song 🙂 Incredible feeling.

U2, Bono, One, (Red), & Me

Bono of U2 and founder of ONE

I joined “One.org” and “join(Red)” years ago. Founded by U2’s front man, Bono, these truly grassroots organizations fight poverty and AIDS around the world.

In the “What We Do” section of One it states…

At ONE, we achieve change through advocacy. We hold world leaders to account for the commitments they’ve made to fight extreme poverty, and we campaign for better development policies, more effective aid and trade reform. We also support greater democracy, accountability and transparency to ensure policies to beat poverty are implemented effectively.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 10/20), U2 brings their tour to Phoenix for a stadium show (opening act “Black-eyed Peas”- are you kidding me?!), and I am going to be there!

I was chosen (fooled ’em again?) to be a volunteer to work the ONE booth, signing up new members and talking about ONE.

This is going to be fun, informative, proactive, entertaining and maybe monumental.

The email I received from ONE says that after the show starts we will get to watch it and there will be “a special surprise”. My guess is one or more of the following… A) good seats, B) backstage, C) meet Bono.

I’m fired up to advocate for a great organization!

Chimimanda Adichie (video)

Here’s one of my favorite authors, Chimimanda Adichie, talking about how hearing a “single story” about a person or country can lead to misunderstanding…

Jim & Pam’s Wedding…

Last night’s “The Office” did a spoof on the original (and real) youtube viral wedding of “Jill & Kevin” (which you can see a few posts below this one). Yes it even worked IMO. The original was an amazing display play of love, joy, friendship, and promise. This one has all that plus the irony, slapstick, and personality that either make you cry or cringe.

Either way, it’s a testament to the hopes, possibilities and love, that art could not imitate unless it were true….
